Founded in 2003, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong (MYO) is a registered charity and one of the finest and innovative music training organizations for young musicians in Asia.
MYO consists of six orchestras tailored to various levels and genres, from beginner to advanced, providing professional training and performance opportunities to over 500 young musicians from more than 120 schools across Hong Kong. Orchestra membership is granted through a rigorous audition process, ensuring a high caliber of talent and commitment.
We present a wide variety of musical experiences, including concerts, flash mobs, overseas exchanges, outdoor performances, community and inclusive performances, and performing art crossover events. All rehearsals and performances are under the guidance of our experienced conductors and sectional tutors, offering students diverse and enriching opportunities.
In addition to our orchestras, MYO offers INSTRUMENTAL CLASSES ▸ designed for children with no prior musical background. These classes provide a solid foundation in music and instrumental skills while introducing the basics of ensemble playing, allowing students to transition into our Beginners Program orchestral training without requiring an audition, thus making the early stages of music education accessible to all.
AUDITION
Auditions are usually held during rehearsals and conducted by the respective conductor. The audition consists of two parts: in the first part, you will need to perform two pieces of differing styles; in the second part, there will be a sight-reading test. If you pass the audition successfully, the conductor will place you in the orchestra that best suits your abilities and assign you to the appropriate section and desk based on your musical skills.

5) Beginners Program (BP) ▸
Level: ABRSM Grade 3 or below. Beginners who can play one-octave scale are welcome.
